Kia Alston, LICSW (She/Her)

Kia Alston is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) providing a full range of culturally-responsive, trauma-informed psychotherapy, consultation and case management services across a variety of settings including private practice, K-12 schools, college mental health, community mental health, prison reentry programs, and foster care systems.

Kia brings a deep understanding of intersectional identity, systemic oppression, and community-centered care to her work with diverse, multicultural populations--including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, refugee, and first-generation clients.

Kia's areas of expertise include: newcomers, immigrants and refugees; multicultural mental health; intergenerational trauma; complex trauma/PTSD; individual, couples, and family therapy; school social work; college counseling; and bilingual therapy (English and Spanish).

Kia's clinical expertise spans Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Solutions-Focused approaches, and she also holds an advanced certificate in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She is known for her capacity to assess complex psychosocial needs, facilitate healing within multicultural contexts, and integrate both mental health and social justice strategies into broader educational and community systems.

Collectively, Kia's experiences have afforded her the opportunity to develop clinical social work assessment, intervention and evaluation skills, enhance her cultural and linguistic competencies, and engage in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) work at the highest level. Her leadership roles in both clinical and administrative capacities--combined with her background in grant writing, grants management, program development, outcomes measurement, strategic planning, quality assurance, staff management and training, and  leadership development--equip her to address mental health, social justice, and DEI challenges at both the individual and systemic level. Kia's work reflects a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, healing, and empowerment across the lifespan.

In 2019, Kia started her small private therapy practice "Cultural and Linguistic Therapy Associates, LLC" wherein she provides virtual individual, couples and group psychotherapy to diverse, multicultural populations. She also offers consulting services to organizations engaged in DEI and social justice work.

As a liberation consultant with And Still We Rise (ASWR), Kia has a commitment to positive social change and social justice with a goal of enhancing performance and increasing the effectiveness of social service, non-profit, educational and governmental organizations. Kia seeks to work on behalf of vulnerable yet resilient communities here in the U.S. and abroad. She looks forward to working on high-impact projects and partnering with mission-driven organizations to increase the effectiveness of the community-based services they provide.

Kia is fluent in English.
