Melissa McCargar, LSWAIC, LCSW (She/Her)

Melissa McCargar is a Psychotherapist and Liberation Consultant at And Still We Rise.

Melissa is a white, cisgender, queer woman who is passionate about inclusivity, equity, and justice. She has significant experience working with LGBTQIA+ youth and adults, adolescents in foster care, and individuals in long-term care. Melissa holds an Associate degree in Business from Nashville State College, a Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Studies with a non-profit minor from Tennessee State University, and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Texas State University. She is provisionally licensed in Washington, Texas, and Massachusetts.

Melissa believes that therapy is a collaborative process where clients are the experts in their own experiences, and that there are no one size fits all solutions. She prioritizes therapeutic work with those within underserved communities, and is committed to providing a safe, affirming space where individuals feel supported and see. To achieve this, her approach to therapy is evidence-based and centered in equity and justice. Melissa draws on a variety of therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic, interpersonal and relational, humanistic, mindfulness-based, and others.

Melissa loves listening to music, reading, playing games, making delicious things to eat, woodworking, and going on adventures with her wife and husky.

Melissa is fluent in English.
